Quilting anyone?

Today I will begin to make one of my Unfinished Projects quilts.  I am going to a wonderful sweet friend's house and we are going to quilt.  I have never quilted with anyone before and so this will be a new adventure for me.  I wonder if I will get anything accomplished or if like with my scrapbooking I will not be able to concentrate on what I am doing?  I really had hoped to have this project done by Feb. 1st, but I don't think that will be happening.  When I am finished I will post a pic of what I have created out of all of those fabrics that are pictured above!

In the meantime I hope you all have wonderful creative days filled with joy and friendships!

Hugs!

Popcorn and Grandson

Well I am sitting here dog tired tonight.  Got up early this morning to get some house upkeep things accomplished.  I managed to get the utility room scrubbed down and 2 coats of paint put on, plus my husband replaced a couple of doors and we got the new molding trim put around them.  Woo Hoo...those 2 doors have been sitting in the garage for I bet 3 years!!!  Now we only have to order 4 more doors and all of the doors in our house will be new!  Tomorrow I plan on getting the master bath painted.  Things look so much better wi th a fresh coat of paint.

This evening we have our grandson Dyllan spending the night.  We were watching  a movie and eating popcorn.  I had told him that Jedda, our dog, couldn't have any popcorn, because it wasn't good for him.  When he dropped a piece on the floor.  Papa asks him  teasingly....did you drop popcorn on the floor?"  And his reply was..."Well at least I didn't feed it to the dog."  LOL!  Gotta love 'em!

Hope you all have a wonderful Sunday!

The Color Room Palette #42

I haven't been frequenting the color room as much as I did when it first started.  But this week I love their monochromatic color scheme.  I am wanting to some wall art for my scapbook room since I have not put anything on the walls yet and these colors were the perfect match and gave me some inspirtation!

If you have the time this week do a LO or card using these colors and upload it to the Color Room.  They are also having a twist this week....that is to use this pallette and scraplift one of their Design Team members or another member on the website.  Just say who you are scraplifting and upload to the gallery by Jan. 28th.

Aren't these colors just yummy!  Enjoy!

Hugs!

Scraplift Challenge with Tutorial

Hi Friends!  Today I would like to share with you a simple 8x8 layout I did for a swap at The Crop Room II.  There was also the challenge there to scraplift yourself or someone else.  Well when I got the swap layout done I liked it so much I just had to make one for myself to include in my grandson's book.  I am going to include a tutorial with this so you can scraplift it if you like.

Here are the layouts I created. If you notice I rotated the Layout for my own page.

Here is the supply list of what you will need:

  • 1 sheet of patterned paper - cut to an 8x8 size
  • 3 sheets or scraps of coordinating cardstock
  • 1 package of stickers or diecuts.
  • 5/8 inch wide ribbon
  • baby ric rac
  • buttons
  • 1 large brad
  • DMC Floss
  • Tim Holtz Distress Ink Vintage Photo
  • Pop dots
Tools used:

  • Cricut Expression
  • Cricut Accent Essentials and Home Accents Cartridges
  • Edge Distressing Tool
  • Paper Cutter
  • Adhesive
  • Needle
Got your supplies together?  Let's begin.
  1. As I mentioned above cut your patterned paper to an 8x8 size.
  2. Cut one 4x6 piece of cardstock for your photo mat.
  3. Cricut: Using your Accent Essentials Cartridge Cut the Top Note Image 48s at 2 1/4" out of your lightest cardstock, then cut the Image Frame 48 from a contrasting cardstock.  Assemble your journal block.  If you don't have a Cricut  you can make your journaling block by cutting a 2 1/4" square and then adhering the lighter cardstock at a 2" square on top.
  4. Using the Home Accents Cartridge and cardstock cut Image "Love-s" at 2 1/4".  This will give you just the heart portion of the Love accent.
  5. Cut an 8" piece of 5/8" ribbon, and a 5" piece of baby ric rac.
  6. Taking your DMC Floss at 3 strands, Tie it onto the buttons.
  7. Using your distressing tool or the blade of your scissors distress the edges of the photo mat
  8. Using Tim Holtz Distressing Ink: Ink the Edges of the Photo Mat, Journal Block, and Heart.
  9. Add pop dots to the back of the journaling block and the heart that you cut with your cricut.
  10. Referring to the Layout adhere all elements.  Tips:  *You will need to trim your photo by 1/4 inch on both sides to fit it onto the mat.  *The ribbon is wrapped and adhered to the backside of your layout by about 1".  If you scrapbook in the 12x12 size, just adhere this to a 12x12 sheet!
There you have it a simple LO completed!

Hope you enjoy your day and if you follow this tutorial I would love to see your Layout!  Just leave me a comment!

Hugs~!

Becky

Procrastination Police

Wondering about my title...well that is what my daughter in law called me and you can read all about it on her blog HERE.  Thought I would check in with everyone and just say that January is halfway over!  Wow 15 days have gone by.

How are we doing on our unfinished projects?  I thought I needed to update my list and get a few more things checked off.  Now if you haven't accomplished any or all projects that you wanted to so far ....remember it's OK!  This is for fun and encouragement.  Sometimes life happens...like a new baby coming home!   So here is my list of unfinished projects:

1) Backup all of the pictures on my computer!! No not craft related but it would be heartbreaking if they were lost.

2) Blood and Roses Darker Side Challenge at scrapbook.com

3) Martica's Tag Swap

4) ICY Challenge at The Crop Room

5) Scrapbooks to complete:

Wedding Scrapbook - 1 page done

My grandchildrens' 1st year books

This is My Story

6) Quilts for my grandson Draven and fix his sister's quilt

7) Snowman wall hanging quilt

8) Picture frames

9) Christmas Florals

10) Christmas Ornaments

11) Mini Scrapbooks

I am totally amazed at what I have done!  This is so unlike me, plus I have completed 10 of those snowman pin cards for next years Christmas!

Also I thought that maybe a look at the CANDY that I will be giving one of you after a drawing at the end of the month might be nice.  You guys probably said she posted BLOG CANDY...but where is it?

This is a package of Lil Davis Designs Chipboard Alphabets.  That green is such a fresh color, perfect for your upcoming spring and summer projects, plus since it is chipboard it can be painted, or altered anyway you like.  So let me know how you are doing....or not doing.  We will be able to get our lists accomplished.

Hugs!

Snowman Pin Easel Card

Ok...so I am a little behind.  or Maybe it is that I am getting a jump on this year!  I have wanted to try making an easel card for quite some time.  I love the easel cards that a friend of mine, Scrappy by Design  has made.  So here is my very first simple attempt at one.  They were easier to make than I anticipated and I love the idea of a little gift on the front.

I used white cardstock, a Martha Stewart Lace Punch, Red Grosgrain Ribbon, a Stampin Up Snowflake punch, and Heavenly Blue Ink from Close to My Heart.  The bling in the center of the snowflakes can be purchased in tubes in the craft section at WalMart.

Thanks for looking!

Challenge Layout Jan. 2011

I am having so much fun so far in 2011!  I have a layout to share with you that I created for a couple of challenges.  The first challenge is for "The Darkerside Challenge" at scrapbook.com which is hosted by scrapvamp each and every month. I also did this challenge for another invitation only website The Crop Room II.  The challenge was to use black, white and silver.

The Darkerside Challenge this month was titled : "Blood and Roses"

This is my oldest son and his beautiful wife, when they were married in 2005! Wow how time flies!
I used Basic Grey Black Tie paper for the background.  Bazill Cardstock in a Dark Red, a black cardstock for the photo mats and a white cardstock for the flourishes.  The flourishes were cut on my Cricut using the Home Accents and Home Decor cartridges.  I wish I could tell you at what size I cut them, but these were actually some I had cut out just playing and had them in my scrap basket.  The black pearl flourish and the red pearls are from I want 2 scrap. The red paper roses are from Offray?  I bought them about 6 years ago at WalMart. I distressed the edges of the photo mat and used hero arts silver ink.  The little white butterflies were actually used as the petals for the flower girl at the wedding. The little white daisies were also used at the wedding.  I used a rub on that I have lost the mfg package information to, as well as the silver flourish paper did not have a name on it.  One last little detail is the silver double heart that can be purchased in the wedding aisle at WalMart.  Can you tell that we only have a WalMart in this town...and no craft or scrapbooking store?

I hope that today you will be creating wonderful memories...either on paper or with those you love!

Hugs!

Exciting News at this House!

Ok...today will be a break from the crafty news, and just some exciting news in my life!

This is today's TOP STORY!!!! I think (or hope I did) post about having a new grandson Draikaiden back in  October.  He was a little preemie baby weighing in at 1lb. 10 oz.  God has truly blessed this little guy....and he is getting to go home tomorrow!!! He is up to 6 lb. 2 oz. and doing great.  He did not have any major complications since birth other than being too early and needing to develope.  I am so excited and can't wait until we can go visit him and this Grandma can hold him for the first time!

The other exciting news my dear husband has decided that we need to get a bigger home.  I about fainted when he said that!  I have hinted, and asked for over 10 years and the response was always the same.  We aren't moving!  I think with having lots of company over the holidays and Christmas Dinner here with just a few close friends he realized that we do need more room.  So I am in the process of decluttering rooms so I can have a realtor come do a walk through of this home. I have talked to the bank and know what we will qualitfy for.   I know this will be a big undertaking but I just pray that if we are doing the right thing for us at this time in our life that God will have the perfect house for us at the perfect price and that we will be able to get what we need from this one.

January 2011....so far full of excitement and  blessings!

Vintage Tags

Well the last couple of days I have been busy creating.  I am partaking in a swap hosted by Martica at scrapbook.com.  We need to make 4 tags and then enclose 2 types of lace at least 18" long with them.  I wish I could tell you all the particulars of where I got the papers and embellishments, but I mainly used scraps out of my basket and just various supplies I have stashed around here. I used my cricut bags tags pockets and more cart and cut the scallop top tags at 5".  The images were printed at a standard wallet size photo on plain white card stock. The images can be found at Graphics Fairy.  She has wonderful vintage images!

A word of note to you all....I actually cleaned my desk off after I was finished!  Shocking but true!
So now another unfinished project that can be crossed off.  Hope you all have a wonderful week!

Hugs!

Unfinished Projects

Hi there!  As I said in my New Year's Post that I wanted to connect with you and try to encourage you throughout the year.  I know I said I don't make resolutions for the new year...but I do set goals. My mind instantly went to all the unfinished projects I have, since I went on a shopping trip in which I picked up more crafting goodies, much of it clearance items from the Christmas products that I can use in items that I want to use as gifts or sell.

I was so amazed at how many things that I could create without buying ANYTHING (well maybe almost not anything).

    Wedding Scrapbook
     My grandchildrens'  1st year books
     This is My Story
6) Quilts for my grandson Draven and fix his sister's quilt
7) Snowman wall hanging quilt
8) Picture frames
9) Christmas Florals
10) Christmas Ornaments
11) Mini Scrapbooks

I have set a goal of June 1st to have this unfinished project list done, with #1-4 completed this month and a dent in at least one of the others.

I encourage you today to think about what special creative project(s), or things that you know you need to do.... make your list and set for yourself  a goal to get them completed. But try to make the goal a realistic one.  May this be a year of completing some things that we have always wanted to do, but just didn't take the time.

My question of the day is:  How many unfinished projects do you have lurking around your house?  Let me know so we can spur each other on and where I can find your list of unfinished projects!  If enough of you want to participate maybe there will be a little BLOG CANDY at the end of each month.

Hugs and Happy Crafting!

SEI Alpine Frost Paper Bag Album

Hey friends!

Since I posted the other day I have been pondering what direction I really want to take with my space here.  I know that so many of you enjoy being challenged or at least seeing other things that are being created to give you some inspiration.

So since I have kept promising to show you some of the things I have been working on I will start with the project I did for a Secret Santa exchange over at scrapbook.com.  It was alot of fun to make!

All of the papers in this paperbag album were from SEI Alpine Frost Collection with the exception of a very dark brown and dark red cardstock from Bazzill.  The red glittered snowflakes and the white glittered branches are ornaments I purchased at WalMart in their Christmas Dept., and the  snowflake buttons were also a WalMart find from favorite findings, as well as the cream colored lace.  (Hey maybe you could get them on clearance!)  The large brown snowflakes were cut on my cricut from the Christmas Essentials Cartridge.  I cut the tags using the Tags, Bags, Boxes and More Cartridge.  I also used a corner rounder and an Anna Griffin Punch on the page inserts.  The embossing was done using a Sizzix snowflake texture plate. I used a golden hued sheer ribbon and a brown grosgrain ribbon.

When creating this little album I didn't want to make it a total has to be Christmas album, but felt that my recipient would be able to use this for winter or Christmas photos and have the liberty to add her own captions. I hope she enjoyed recieving it as much as I enjoyed making it for her.

Thanks for looking!

Hugs!

A New Year

What a year 2010 has been!  My life has been filled with so much joy!  The birth of a new grandson -you know those grandbabies have a special place in my heart. The taking on a new ministry. Seeing my sons grow and change.  The celebration of 25 yrs of marriage!  I can't wait to see what 2011 will bring.

I know that last year I began my blog on the 1st of Jan.  I had so many hopes and dreams to inspire you my readers more often than I did.  But hey ....I really feel like I am still a newbie at this blogging stuff.  Still trying to get my feet wet and feeling my way through the blogging world.

Has anyone set any goals or made any resolutions for 2011?  I don't think I have made any concrete goals or plans on this 3rd day of the year.  I guess I don't  really believe in resolutions.  I always feel that a resolution will be something that is broken in my world.  Maybe it's because I lack self discipline or maybe it's just that I don't want to fail.  I know that I hope to be able to reach out to others more when I see them in need.  I still want to find that time that seems so elusive to me, to be able to create.  I think  for this year my hope is that in whatever I do I will be able to look back and feel good about what I have done.  No pressure other than to strive to do my best each day.

So my question for each of you to answer is this...what is your dream, hope, or wish that you have for your life in 2011?  Leave me your answer and together we will make 2011 one of the best yet!  Encouraging each other on in whatever endeavors our hearts are leading us!

Happy New Year!  May yours be blessed!

Hugs!
